High Functing Autism

People with high-functioning autism or Asperger's syndrome do not have the delayed language development that's typically found in people with autism. In addition, people with high-functioning autism have average or above average intelligence. However, they may show other behaviors and signs similar to what's seen with other types of autism: delay in motor skills lack of skill in interacting with others little understanding of the abstract uses of language, such as humor or give-and-take in a conversation obsessive interest in specific items or information strong reactions to textures, smells, sounds, sights, or other stimuli that others might not even notice, such as a flickering light Unlike people with other forms of autism, people with high-functioning autism or Asperger's syndrome want to be involved with others. They simply don't know how to go about it. They may not be able to understand others' emotions. They may not read facial expressions or body language well. As a result, they may be teased and often feel like social outcasts. The unwanted social isolation can lead to anxiety and depression.

Are you sure?

I need to get something out there.
To all of you who are not sure if your kid is developing like he/she should be listen please!! Please don't take chances with his/her life. Get early intervention. Now! There might be a chance they have nothing wrong...but what if they do?
Our therepists have been wonderful and they have taught me things to help my kids that I can not put a value on. Brain gym, drooling exercises, speaking 24-7 to them, letting them do for themselves even when it is easier to do it for them. Please don't be in denial or worried what others will think. This is your oppertunity to change someones life...your childs.

porud momma

I am a proud momma.Never in all the time we have known about carters autism did I think we would have this moment. Carter had a speaking part in his Christmas musical tonight and did wonderful. It was a dialogue and he was funny too. We had a break down at practice, he cried and got all blotchy, we both cried, he did brain gym and drank his water and I prayed. He had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the drama and then proceeded to pick a wedgie as he was headed back to his spot but he was wonderful. Did I mention he had a broken arm? Only two blood vessels have popped in my head...
