High Functing Autism

People with high-functioning autism or Asperger's syndrome do not have the delayed language development that's typically found in people with autism. In addition, people with high-functioning autism have average or above average intelligence. However, they may show other behaviors and signs similar to what's seen with other types of autism: delay in motor skills lack of skill in interacting with others little understanding of the abstract uses of language, such as humor or give-and-take in a conversation obsessive interest in specific items or information strong reactions to textures, smells, sounds, sights, or other stimuli that others might not even notice, such as a flickering light Unlike people with other forms of autism, people with high-functioning autism or Asperger's syndrome want to be involved with others. They simply don't know how to go about it. They may not be able to understand others' emotions. They may not read facial expressions or body language well. As a result, they may be teased and often feel like social outcasts. The unwanted social isolation can lead to anxiety and depression.

I love your bed

I got an email from a person today who complimented Carter. She was talking to one of his PARAs and she was telling her how much Carter looked like his daddy. More like cloned from David, walks talks... anyway. She said the PARA talked on and on about how good a kid he was. It was so good to hear. He really does bring a warmth into my life. He is so kind and honest most of the time. He fell asleep in my bed at 6:50 tonight after school and playing outside he crashed. I tried to lift him into his bunk bed and I said I love you Carter to which he replied, I love your bed.

Adam

I netflicked the movie "Adam" because someone suggested it. It is a movie about a man living with aspergers syndrome. The ups and downs of his life, jobs, women, partys and food. It was like getting a glimpse of Carter in the future. I recomend the movie to anyone with aspergers or parents who have kids with it. Not all kids are the same and it was funny to see things in Adam that i see in Carter. They both are obsessed with space and numbers. Cool movie!

My Joy, Carter

Carter is eccentric.
Carter is like a big bear hug.
Carter takes everything very litterally.
Carter is polite, funny and extremely smart.
Life as Carters mommy has been a roller coaster ride to say the least. He has so many different levels and layers to his big personality. Concidering he probuly has Asperger he is an amazing child. I was just wondering if others who have kids like this feel as priviledged?

Carter Allan

Carter asked me the other day, "Mommy what is Eliza and Emmett's last name?" I answered Pratt of course. to which he asked another question, "Mommy what is their second name?" I said they did not have one yet and he could name them if he would like too, so he named Emmett our husky/German Shepard dog, Emmett Allan and Eliza our cat Eliza Allan. So cute since his name is Carter Allan. He the told me he named them after daddy and Papaw. SO cute.
